Grit on the Pitch 

Two matches. Two losses. And yet, somehow, this was a good weekend for football at King’s Kids.

On Saturday, our team — Last Disciples FC, part of the Jona Lavy Football Fellowship — took to the pitch for two friendly matches as part of their ongoing development programme. The scores didn’t go our way: 2–1 in the first match, 3–2 in the second. But if you’d been standing on the touchline, you wouldn’t have called it a losing day.

What stood out wasn’t the final whistle. It was everything that happened before it — the passion, the teamwork, the boys picking each other up after a missed chance and getting straight back into the game. They competed with real confidence, and they never stopped encouraging one another, even when the score wasn’t going their way.

Why we’re not worried about the results

Football at King’s Kids was never just about football. It’s a platform — for discipline, for character, for teaching young people what it means to show up for each other even when things are hard. Every match, win or lose, is a chance for these boys to practise resilience in real time.

There’s real potential in this squad. With continued coaching, mentorship and community support behind them, we believe Last Disciples FC can become one of the strongest youth teams in Blantyre — not just on the scoreboard, but in the character of the young men wearing the shirts.

Two losses this week. But two teams full of boys who are winning at something much bigger.
