In Their Own Words

Sometimes the best way to understand what King’s Kids does is just to listen.

We recently sat down with a few of the boys and asked them a simple question: how has King’s Kids changed your life? Here’s what they told us, in their own words.

Joshua*: “My life has changed since I started coming to King’s Kids because I wasn’t going to school, but now I am. I am also now behaving well and listening to my parents.”

Chiko: “I never used to go to school, but since joining King’s Kids, I am now going to school. I am no longer walking around aimlessly in the streets.”

Gift: “When I was not coming to King’s Kids, I was not at school and I would spend all my time out in the streets. I was fond of stealing, and I did not care much about bathing and cleanliness. Since I started coming to King’s Kids, I learnt that we must not wander aimlessly in the streets. I also learnt that if I do not have school supplies, I should come to King’s Kids and ask for help, instead of using that as an excuse not to go to school. I also learnt that I should not fight with my friends. I am now calmer, and I have learned to listen to adults and stop being naughty. King’s Kids has also taught me to be disciplined.”

Three boys. Three different stories. One common thread.

Each of these boys describes the same shift, told in his own way: school instead of the streets, structure instead of aimlessness, and a growing sense of responsibility for their own choices. None of it happened overnight — it’s the product of consistent mentorship, patient guidance, and a team of facilitators who show up week after week.

We’re proud of how far these boys have come. And we’re grateful they were willing to put it into words.
